1Great for the 7 months that it worked  Jan 06, 2010
I bought this TV in June 2009 from Sam's club. I noticed that every tenth time I would turn it on, the Philips logo was distorted. Philips said that is normal. Yesterday, I turned on the tv and when I tried to change the input, the menu was faded and pink. Pretty much every menu and input setting was faded with lines along the screen. Power cycling did not help. Thank God for Sams because otherwise I would have had a paperweight or had to wait for Philips to repair my unit.
Here are the good things while I had it:
-Great sound
-Great response time, okay picture
-Heavy duty glass stand
Bad things:
-uses 350watts of power which is like having a plasma tv
-Crappy contrast ratio
-You better hope you have a warranty on this thing. That would explain why Sams club is clearing these out at $998. If you are going to buy one of these things, buy the longest warranty you can.
-no VGA input for computers, annoying changing inputs

I loved Philips and had great respect from them since they are well known in the healthcare field. But after seeing these issues, I have concluded that these newer TV's in general are just heavy paperweights. They probably build them in China now and expect the consumer to shell out 2k every 3-5 years instead of the good ol' days where our old RCA set lasted 26 years! Regardless these things depreciate faster then my car. This TV was $1499+tax 6 months ago and the year before that was $2399! So in 2 years, it has lost $1300. I am going to just go buy myself a cheap Vizio or Insignia with a credit card keep it for 2 years, resell, and get another one.

Hope this helps anyone considering buying this set. I would say go for it but get an extended warranty!

Very handsome t.v., okay sound (we hooked up a surround sound because it wasn't the best quality), cheasy remote, but over all we were satisfied with it's picture and HDTV is fantastic! However, we bought this Philips 52" LCD HDTV just 15 months ago, and now it's a very expensive paper weight. After we found out that Philips Customer Service wasn't interested in talking to us (no warranty, no service!), we had to hunt down a "certified Philips Repair Center". First we had to pay them to come pick up the massive T.V. for $70.00, then we paid an additional $50.00 to have it diagnosed. We had to purchase the schematics for the T.V. repair tech because he didn't have them on hand, (?!) that was an additional $30.00 we had to pay Philips. In the end, the LCD is completely dead and it will cost $1200.00 to replace. $150.00 to find out we've been had! There are other reviews I've seen recently that say the same thing, no customer support and no way to fix the t.v. without purchasing a part that costs nearly the same as a brand new t.v. I've seen reviews where customers say it only lasted for 7 months, and no way to repair or replace it. I guess 15 months was pretty lucky? So buyers beware, Philips won't back up their product, won't deal with you, and it's probably going to cost you more than the t.v. is worth to have it fixed if anything goes wrong. We will not be purchasing any Philips products from now on considering how much we paid for that paper weight. Now I have to pay a fee to have it dumped, to add insult to injury!

(We did not have the option of buying an extended warranty, since we bought it direct from Philips!)

This review is being posted after 7 months of ownership.

I moved to digital TV this past winter. The worst thing about going to a nice TV was it made my other TVs show their age. So I treated myself to more than one. I bought a total of 4 different brands thinking that I would have a REALLY nice TV in my living room and something less spectacular in my bedroom. I ended up returning a more expensive TV to get a second Phillips because the Phillips looked and sounded better side by side.

Others smarter than I may talk about technical specs that make this an inferior TV. I am not interested in that debate. I know which one looked best when I had them side-by-side in my home.

Watching blu ray movies is nothing less than awesome (when you get a GREAT movie recorded in blu ray.)

FYI, I looked mostly at 120Hz LCDs, but did try one plasma TV. And in case you were wondering, yes, these are quite a pain in the behind to repackage and take back to the store. But I have no shame when I am spending this much money and I can look at the output side-by-side and I realize the cheaper TV looks better.

So you want this TV it looks like pure sex and the wife is not beating you over the head about the price right?? ok ill try to keep this short and sweet is it worth the money??? YES but you have to remember if you have any cable company or even fios understand they broadcast in 1080i not 1080p but that ok the picture syill will look great on this tv the halo effect that most hd tvs have is almost non issue here it also come with a light sensor that adjusts your picture according to the light in the room it is truly a wonderful feature that you will enjoy but want to see the true power of this tv ?? put in a blue ray disc and prepare to crap your pants , and yes there are problems as you will find that people have had with this tv on the net but remember ALL tvs have problems no matter who makes them and the problem with this one was fixed long ago with a software update and this one should have that update installed already so not to worry also if you are a gamer the 2 ms response time will make you smile from ear to ear oh and i have to admit the speakers that come with this unit are some of the best i have ever heard on a set but i have home theater and no TV speakers can compete with that look at it this way if you don't like it you can always return it but i assure you you will not .

This TV is amazing, the picture quality on HD channels is wonderful and still good on non-HD. Stick a Blu-Ray in and you get awesome picture that makes you feel like you are there! Fly over scenes make you feel like you are flying! I would highly reccomend this TV for anyone looking to get a great tv at a great cost!

Consumer Reports Says: Buy HDTV at Amazon!

Washington, D.C. (July 2010) -- When it comes to price, Consumer Reports says shoppers are most likely to find the best deals online. And the publication called three ecommerce sites "standouts" in this year's Consumer Reports ratings of electronics stores: Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com and B&H (bhphotovideo.com)

The magazine's survey was based on more than 38,000 purchases of electronics, including flat-screen TVs, between January 2009 and June 2010. The report indicated that online stores consistently offered better prices. (The magazine's full report can be found in its July 2010 issue.)

"
Buying online can be better," the magazine said in a press release. "The higher-rated electronics retailers in Consumer Reports annual reader survey are Web sites. Readers who bought online rated their overall satisfaction at 90 out of 100 -- higher than those who bought in a store. Additionally, many Web merchants offer free shipping, even on TVs, which could spare the hassle of struggling to fit a bulky carton in the car or paying a local store for delivery."

Consumer Reports said that while no single retailer scored excellent in all shopping categories, Amazon.com came closest.
